I've seen a few things that work for this like Chromecast- although its in its beta stage for the whole desktop, and there is a Netgear device that would work great but it looks like its limited to intel approved devices that will work with it. I'm looking for something that will work over WiFi, not one of the USB devices that will cats your screen.

Anyone have any suggestions. I'll use it for presentations at work and also to do videos at home. Audio isn't a big deal for me to stream as I'll use other speakers anyways.

If your TV does not have WiDi then you will need to use chromecast or google TV etc, or a physical cable from desktop to tv display.

When you see people streaming YouTube video to TV or viewing a photo or playing a music file on the network it seems like displaying your desktop would be simple, Well it is not the same. When you TV streams DLNA, it is using wifi to get the data over the network, then sending it to its player that understands and plays the music or youtube video. For you to just be able to send your desktop to the TV via wifi, the tv would have to have a direct link from the wifi chip to the display, as well as the source device putting it into a format that the TV would accept.
