460W Enough for 760?

Is a 460W power supply enough to power an EVGA Superclocked GTX 760? I have all the necessary connectors, but it recommends a 500W supply. I have an Intel Core i7 4770 which draws a max TDP of ~140W according to bit-tech, and then the card has a max TDP of 170W according to EVGA. The numbers are certainly within the 460W range, but I am curious as to why they recommend a 500W.

Solution
If that's the same as your PSU, then...385W = 32 Amps.

So it meets the minimum for a GTX 760. If it has the supplementary 2x PCI-E 6 pin power cables as well that's great.

Bottom line. You may be cutting it a little close. You can use it, but in the long run you may want something better.

EVGA recommends 500W...
Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 30 Amps
http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=02G-P4-2765-KR

Overall wattage is meaningless TBH, as depending on the quality of it, it may not output this amount where you need it too most, the 12v rail(s). This rail powers the key parts of your system, like the graphics card. Generally good modern PSU's will output most of its advertised wattage as amperage (amps) on the 12v rail.

What make/model of PSU is it ?

It's a 460W Dell OEM PSU, that's all it says. The model number is in chinese.

The numbers don't look too bad compared to other dual rail PSU's iv'e seen. But sadly we can't just add them up to get a total, as it doesn't work like that.

Does it not say nearby something like.... Max combined power on 12v rail is xxxx or 12v rail must not exceed xxxx ?

Do you know the series or model of system it came from e.g Dell XPS 8700 or such ?

XPS 8700, and as far as I can tell, the power supply in that picture is the same as mine.

I'll take my chances, I can't replace the power supply without also replacing the case, motherboard, and OS, because Dell makes all their components proprietary, so it's really hard to upgrade anything.

If it dies I'll just revert back to my old card and return the 760, well and dandy.
