New cable modem that broadcasts wireless, now existing wifi router only works up close

My ISP came out and installed a new cable modem so I'd get faster speeds, and it appears it must do wifi now as I see some new networks available. Only problem is, is that my existing wifi router now only works if I'm roughly in the same room as the router, if i'm in another room I can't get out to the internet anymore. It's very strange!
Any ideas on what the problem might be or how to fix it?

You could try changing the wifi channel on one of the routers. Try and put them on 1,6, or 11, seperatly of course. Post if you don't know how to get into your router.

Just in case you don't know. To reach your router's config page. Click start, type in CMD in your search bar for programs. open that. Then type ipconfig. Look for your default gateway. thats the ip for your router. (whichever one you are connected to)

I will give it a shot. Should the numbers be spaced out like that or is the main thing that they are different?
Also, I don't know how to tell what channel the ISP provided wifi networks are on, is there a way to tell?

Also, some routers let you turn off wireless altogether, not just ssid.

You should be able to see what channel each network device is under the wireless connection pop-up where you select which network to access.

no spaces in the ip. like 192.168.0.1. I dont know what kind they gave you so you will just have to do some digging or google that brand with what you are trying to do. "how to change wifi channel on _____ router"

On 2.4Ghz wireless only use channels 1,6, or 11. Having one on channel 1 and one on channel 4 will not help you as channel 4 overlaps channel one, for example.
