Right now my computer can connect to the internet fine and surf the web. However, I recently encountered a problem where I can't accesses game servers. I first had the problem logging into Robocraft which puts you into a server automatically in order to play the game. When I tried logging in the game gave me "General error: cannot connect to host". The game just had an update so I thought it might be a bug with the servers and new update. I gave it a few days and tried again. It still didn't work. (I don't play a lot online so it took me a while to notice this problem.) I thought the problem was with the game until I tried to play Gary's Mod multiplayer. I could download add-ons but when I went to look for servers to play on there were none shown. I tried refreshing the list but that didn't work either. I then tried Star wars Battlefront II and I had the same problem. Not only could I not connect to the servers, I couldn't even see them. Please Help!

Things to know:

  • Between encountering this problem and now, I have restored my computer to factory settings because of a virus I couldn't get rid of. The problem still persists.

I tried turning off my firewall and that had no effect.

I had a message about an IP conflict and I tried a method of fixing it but I'm not sure if I did or not or if it is even related to my problem.

Proxy settings don't seem to have anything to do with it.

These games have worked flawlessly up until now and I cannot think of anything that would have caused this problem.
Thank you to anyone who helps. :D
Feel free to ask any questions too.

So I tried this method and think it solved the IP conflict but it didn't solve my main problem. I even restarted my computer to see if that would have an effect and it didn't. However, now it seems I cant even connect to the steam network when I could before. I saw some posts about port forwarding in response to similar problems on here, so could that be related at all?
