Currently gaming on a macbook pro. :( And finding the specs not as useful for gaming, now that it's gotten a bit older (and that most games aren't made with mac compatibility). So I decided to build my first gaming/general-use rig that was also future proof. Here's what I have so far. Please let me know if there are any issues with the setup, i.e. bottlenecking, or incompatibility. Also, I'm going for a black/blue color scheme.

CPU: i5 3570k (I do a bit of multi-tasking: playing youtube videos, iTunes while i'm gaming or browsing the internet. Not sure if i need to upgrade to multi-threading for that.)
GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX 760
MoBo: ASUS P8Z77-V Pro (Love the color scheme, and I think the specs are supposed to be good as well).
Memory: Corsair Vengence 16G @ 1600Mhz (Not sure if the memory is too much, but i like this ram because it comes in blue, and unsure if this amount of memory won't become useful in the future.)
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO SSD @ 250 GB (like the technology behind this one) and Western Digital DW Blue 1T Hard Drive (I also already have an external 1T hard drive for backup)
PSU: Dell H750E-01 (recycling from a friend's broken computer)
Case: CoolMaster Cosmos SE (Again, I like the look of this one. Has a window, black/blue lighting, and so far the reviews I've seen have been good)

I haven't decided whether or not to over clock, but I tried to make sure everything would support it. Please let me know if you think I should over clock and what type of cooling system I should get, and if there's anything else I'm missing in my setup. Right now for the prices i've found, this setup is around $1200. My budget is around that.

Thanks for any help. :)

You don't need multi-threading or 16 gb of RAM for your usage, but you do need a new PSU.

I know G.Skill and Kingston also do blue RAM that is good quality. I personally like the blue RipjawsX.

Update: Here is a list for deciding on a PSU. You don't want anything lower than a tier 3, and if you want to get into overclocking, you'll want a tier 1 or 2.

Blue RAM and I stuck with a blue mobo too. Newer CPU and mobo (has SATA express for the SSD), tier 2a PSU, better HDD, included the OS, added a CPU cooler and the GPU comes with a copy of Watch Dogs.

Do you need a monitor, keyboard or mouse?

Thanks for responding. Looking up the components. As for the case, it comes in 2 designs, one with the mesh and one with the window. I want the window one. I do need a monitor and a keyboard. I have a mouse, but well, it's been acting up lately.

I'm not particularly knowledgable about monitors, so you might want to open up another post asking about the best one in you size/price range.

As for keyboards, if you can afford a mechanical keyboard, they are fantastic. I like Cherry Red switches (keys), they are the lightest and have no tactile feedback. You need to decide which switches you want first, as not all keyboards come with all types of switches.

If you want a good FPS mouse, i'd go with the Razer DeathAdder, I don't pay much attention to MOBA/MMO mice.
