Hey guys, I overclocked my i7 2600k to 4.5GHz with Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO. The problem is, is that when I use Prime95 to do a 100% load test the temps got up to 80-83 degrees Celsius. I stopped it once they got this high because it doesn't sound safe. However, when doing stuff like gaming it never goes that high. So what would you guys recommend? Should I lower the overclock or do you think it's okay since it doesn't go that high on normal gaming use, ect.

More about : max temps 100 load

software like prime 95 is just simulating full usage of ur cpu which unlikely to happen while gaming in my opinion 83 in prime 95 is not bad actually for 4.5 i think its good cuz i have i5 3570k i o'ced it to 4.5 prime showed me about the same results as urs however i have Noctua d-15 Thats the only difference
Point is: gaming is a whole other story

Thank you for the reply, and you're right gaming and regular usage is a whole different story. I doubt my CPU will ever be at 100% load.

Prime 95 is meant to simulate a worse case scenario, where the CPU is running at max load, so of course the temps will be high.

Gaming will of course not hit these temperatures, as the CPU load is changing, instead of being constantly at 100%.

My 4770K @4.2GHz sits at 20C idle, 45C gaming and 67C under Prime 95.
As everyone knows, Haswell has some heat issues when overclocked, but those temps are still fine.

Okay, so essentially you guys are saying that these are okay right? I just wanted to be sure that it is okay.
