So I'm 1 day away from ordering my first build and I've decided to change my build one last time. I'm upgrading from a sapphire radeon r9 270x to the 280x toxic. I would like a good opinion on what psu to get. Plan on nooberclocking (i think i just invented a word) my cpu. Help me out blacky. This is my build:

The only reason you would need to upgrade the PSU later would be if you added a second 280x. For the current build the XFX is a very good PSU. If you wanted a PSU now that could handle a second GPU I would get this

Power Supply: XFX ProSeries 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($109.99 @ Newegg)

It is fully modular which mean you can add or remove cables as needed, rather than non-modular which has all the cables all the time (see the bundled cables in Andrew picture). It is good for enthusiast overclocking, but serious overclockers would want to get something a bit better like the seasonic M12II series. That being said it is definitely an overkill PSU for now and if you don't think you will add...

I would just like to confirm that it will in fact be "sufficient" like Andrew said concerning the change in my gpu. Don't want to have to buy a new psu if I decide to upgrade later on down the road

My buddy has a Rosewill Challenger with a GTX 770, and the 280X is the same size.

The Tri-X is just a particularly long cooler.

As Andrew said, the HAF's are good. My friend also uses a 912. He's pulled out the middle drive cage and now you could probably park a boat in there.

The H440 will also fit the card, just need to remove one of the HDD holders. I was looking at those earlier today, wishing they were available when i got my case.

Do you need an optical drive? You can always use an external drive, or you could hide an internal one down the bottom of the H440, though it'd be a pain in the ass to use. Depends if you're going to use it often or not. I've not used mine since installing my OS.

lol. Nice metaphor. You don't need to remove the drive cage, look at my build with 10.6 inch cards:

Yeah thats what his looks like now, but his came with another removable HDD bay in the space you've got.

Don't remember removing an HDD cage in mine. Even if he does, he could fit it by removing the cage.

I guess I don't need an optical drive. This is a gift for my wife's birthday and im stuck because I know nothing about pc's but also have too much pride in letting her in on my secret to ask her questions. I suppose she probably does get digital copies of her games and I could get an external optical if it comes down to it. So what should I get? A h440 or a haf?

HAF for sure. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID= This Optical Drive is great and fits in the top drive cage in the HAF 912. You could get the HAF 912 Advanced for a window :)

Unfortunately i'm going to have to disagree with Andrew because I love the H440, and i've got a NZXT case myself so i'm probably biased. Really it depends which one you prefer the look of. Both are great cases that will suit your needs. The HAF is possibly a little easier to build in, but the H440 will look neater.

First, tell me that doesn't look awesome: http://www.coolermaster.com/case/mid-tower/haf-922-red/
That is special edition, so can't be gotten.

As for the PSU, 775 is way overkill. Never heard of a 775w one anyways. A 650 Watt XFX or SeaSonic like these are great:

XFX: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207014
SeaSonic: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151106

Pick the better looking or better budget-fitting.

Yea I meant 750w. So ill stick with the 650. I like both cases but think I'm going with the h440 only because I know my wife likes white cases. Other than the previously discussed changes, does the build look good overall?
