Moving to Japan (from U.S.), how should I transport my desktop?

I have to send my desktop with me, it maybe took 1,300usd to build so I don't want to just sell it and buy a laptop. SHould I try shipping it? it's a CoolerMaster HAF case so, it's rather on the "big-boned" size but, I have no idea what it would cost to ship, do you guys have any guesses?
The other option would be to disasemble it and buy new parts in japan to re-build, would be much cheaper/easier but I would need to buy new stuff. Also I was already planning on buying a new monitor since this one isn't actually 1920x1080p. So, I don't to bring the monitor.

Do you guys have any reccomendations? I leave in a month and I'm a little nervous about this. You guys were a huge help when I built this thing 2 years ago (my compliments btww, you all know your stuff), so maybe you could help me agian with this issue...
also, do I have to worry about the different wattage/voltage in Japan?
There is apparently a big Tech shop in the area of Hiroshima where I'll be living so, I can get new stuff there I suppose.

Any help is greatly appreciated, Ty!

It'll need to be specially packed - the insides stuffed with bubble wrap. The outside covered with foam and/or bubble wrap. Then placed tightly in a sturdy crate or suitcase. You should insure it. Packing, shipping and insurance will cost a large percentage of the buy price.

Alternatively you can sell what you've got and buy new stuff in Japan.

Don't bring it. Selling it you might get 50-60% of what you have in it. But if you donate it to a school or University you could get 100% of the value as a tax write off. Just be sure to get a receipt from wherever you donate it too. You can even donate it to Good Will.

I want to bring it, why would I be taxed anyway for a computer that is already mine? would I be taxed because of shipping?

you don't think that disassembling it makes sense? how much would you guess shipping would cost?

in reference to the tax write off, you wouldnt get taxed, the amount its worth would be deducted from your taxes. In anycase, your best bet would probably be to take it apart, though im not sure how well that would go over through security

Maybe take the cooler off its big. But other wise leave it in the case. You'd have to ship the case anyway. Just make sure all your drives are in properly and same with psu and gpu. Open one side and stuff it full of bubble wrap. Then jam the side back on.

I might just do this, I have a month to sell a CM HAF case and a monitor, but should I also sell the PSU? It's a little heavy and if it wouldn't work in Japan anyway due to different voltages or whatever I could buy one there. Can anyone tell me if my PSU would or wouldn't work in Japan?

Oh I see sorry, I'll not be paying either U.S. or Japanese taxes for the 1st 2 years I'm living there, I'm not breaking any laws or exploiting some kind of loophole or anything. It has to do with some treaty b/w the U.S. & Japan, as long as my income is <100k I am not expected to pay income tax for a couple years. My employer instructed me to do this so, don't call me a freeloader ; )
