Can 1866MHz be running @ 1600MHz?

Hey guys, this is my first post in Tom's hardware. I have a corsair 1866MHz ram and through X.M.P profile setting i can only set it to 1866MHz. The default speed is @ 1333MHz. Currently, i am having BSOD when i select 1866MHz so i thought of manually selecting it to be @ 1600MHz. Is it safe to do so? Please advice. Thanks!

I am running on a MSI g45 mobo.

What CPU and DRAM model #? Might check that you have the latest BIOS which may be the problem itself, most of all BIOS updates primarily consist of DRAM fixes.

Since you don't list a part number of the memory only you know what hardware you have. It is safe to run 1866MHz memory at 1600MHz.

It seems you may have some kind of mismatched memory that is unable to operate at rated specifications.

If i were to select manually to 1600MHz. I just go to my BIOS to select the DRAM frequency to be at 1600MHz and then i am done is that so?

You'll want to set timings appropriate to the sticks or will likely encounter things like BSODs

Try enabling XMP set to 1866 and raise the CPUVTT voltage to 1.14 and give that a try, else can try 1600 at 9-9-9-24 manually
