Im in need of a new PC for my music productions but im also interested in PC gaming. I had some parts written down, but im completely unaware of which parts are compatible with one another, after all this is my first time.

Im on a budget of £500 but im willing to go higher if you think its worth it. Also, im not worried about CPU coolers or anything like that (unless you think its a necessity) , just the basics.

Any help is greatly appreciated, Thanks :)

so for gaming an intel is better. they are actually quite a bit faster on a per core basis. this is important in gaming since most games are not really good at using all 4-8 cores.

In your circumstance tho you are not using a top of the line GPU so going with amd is a good idea

with amd you can get a 6-8 core cpu for a reasonable price while a 6 core intel is very expensive

as for your main use of productivity software more cores means allot better performance and that AMD chip will be perfect for your use and will substantially improve your experience in music creation

lastly your power supply. any seasonic or xfx (made by seasonic) will be the absolute best power supply you can get, you may be able to find an xfx unit for...

Sorry it took me so long to reply. This is what i got, i went for 8 cores since i hear alot of new titles are taking advantage of it, i don't know if its bullshit or not, i think id be fine with a 6 core processor through right?

If there are any big weaknesses just let me know. Also im not sure about the graphics card.

This is another one i was looking at, cant find the exact product on pcpartpicker though?

As for the music production aspect, im told that you'll need a fast processor, do you think 3.5Ghz is good enough?Im currently doing all of my productions on a 2.3Ghz PC and its pretty slow Also the software i use for my productions takes advantage of multicore processing, im completely unfamiliar with the term though.

Plus a large amount of ram which i think i got right. But that's pretty much it for music production.

Im really afraid of getting a untrusted power supply since it can potentially damage other components, is the one i have chosen good enough?

as for your GPU selection if you really want to have good 1080p gaming you should go for an amd r9 280 or a gtx 760. the only thing with graphics cards is that the more you pay the more you do get. there is not really a bad GPU it just comes down to what quality you want to play at. the 2 GPU's I mentioned are both able to play at high settings with a 1080p monitor. anything less than these and you will have to lower some of your settings but you will still have a good gaming experience

Thanks alot man, youve been the biggest help so far in creating this thing, im definitely going to change to one of the GPU's youve told me about since i want the full experience, then eventually change to one of the Intel CPU's somewhere down the line when i feel its needed.

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/

here is a quick intel build, it has a good GPU and comes in right at $500 and it is using uk pricing and shops. you would have to pick a case and to make sure that your GPU will fit as it is a very long card 290 cm if memory serves.

Thats the part-list i previously had, i think you copy permalink at the top then paste it here and i should see the parts. Im very interested to see it though. Also do you think this build overall would perform better than the build i had earlier?

Awesome, cheaper than what i had before as well, and im assuming that it will perform better to considering its Intel?

Just want to say thanks for your help, first time ive gotten good feedback on this or any other forum.

Just to clarify though, this would perform better (or at the same level as) the other build i originally had?

For gaming I know it would be at least equal. You can spend allot more for an I7 if you really want to boost performance.

As far add music goes I would have to know what software you are using and find some benchmarks and check out there website for some more info. If your software like 8 cores then it may not be quite as good.

I would not know off hand other than both cpus are good

I think ill go with the intel, you dont have to bother looking for benchmarks etc, i looked up some similar thoughts for the software and they say a quad core processor will definitly do the job, and like i mentioned earlier it takes advantage of multicore processing so a 6/8 core processor might be better, but i think im eventually going to upgrade the CPU/GPU's when the time comes anyways.

Thanks for all the help :) made this whole process alot easier for me.

So the only left to really do is to look on the motherboard manufa turers website and make sure that you can put a nice i7 cpu in there. I am on my celular so I cannot check right now. I will check again later but I believe I have you on the newest chipset from Intel and you will be able to use any of the newest and fastest cpus.

Just checked, fully compatiable :)
