Auto-rebooting system issues

I have begun experiencing (it began some time ago, dont remember why) that my system (the PC) is constantly auto-rebooting, and doesn't get any farther than (it appears, although I cannot tell exactly because my monitor is in sleep mode) just past the boot - right before it begins loading windows files (Win 7 64 bit).

So, it simply boots up, then shortly thereafter shuts down (power goes off), and it reboots. The same thing happens like somewhere between 10-15 times (maybe more).

Yesterday, it took a very long time (about 15-20 minutes), then my patience ran out and I disconnected power and display cables for both the PSU and the monitor, waited a bit, replugged and rebooted, and it worked (done this before).

So, does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be wrong? My system (except the gfx card) is about 2-3 years old. Shouldn't be that unstable because of that age.

Any ideas and/or suggestions? I am certain that tons of others have experienced the exact same thing.

Thank you!

This happens when the cpu overheats and goes to shut down but the 'shutdown' has been reconfigured to 'restart'

Can you boot into Safe Mode then reconfigure the shutdown - r click on the shutdown button and reconfigure it using properties so that it shuts down rather than restarting.

It happens in the morning when I turn on my PC after getting out of bed. The CPU is cold and it has absolutely nothing to do with overheating, I can guarantee that much.

I haven't even started to look into temp issues. You need to get the pc working first.

If you can't get in to start it in Safe Mode, see if you can use your Windows disk to do a Windows repair.

The PC works fine. It boots up and works... the problem is that it takes (sometimes) quite a while before it loads windows up.

When I turn it on, it begins the auto-rebooting process that I described earlier... then after about 10-20 auto-reboots, it loads up Windows and works fine from there.

EDIT: And as I also described earlier, I always get it up and running. If it doesn't boot into Windows after X amount of tries, I just shut it down and pull out the power cables etc., and then replug everything after a short break. That solves it so far.

probably the bios battery which is close to death.
i`m thinking of a malfunctioning Hard drive or just needs fresh install.
overheating should be checked too.
