Hello guys, so from past some days I've thinking of making my old ass pc to a decent gaming rig.

here are the specs, please let me know if it would not support or bottleneck my upgrades.

My Current setup:
PSU: VS650W(got a new one)
Motherborad: M4A88T-M-LE
Processor: AMD Athlon IIX2 250 3.0Ghz
Graphics: On Board GPU Radeon 3000 series
Ram: 2GB

Upgrading to:
GPU: R9 270X
Ram: 8GB(its the max supported)

Will it be fine or would bottleneck?

Thanks in advance!

More about : motherboard m4a88t support 270x

It has a PCIe 2.0 16x slot, so that will work fine for your 270x. The real bottle neck here would probably be the Athlon x2, a fairly dated processor at this point.

hmmm I see, but I am not really interested/have budget for getting a new processor...
still which processor would you reccomend for this setup?

I am a gamer and do a little intensive work on this pc btw, if that matters.

Thanks for the suggestion but atm I can't afford a $185 cpu maybe i'll get a new cpu in a couple of months and my bugdet would be $200(+-$20)

On the other side what if I don't upgrade my cpu, will the R9 270X support? how much performance drop would be there?

Also it would be great if you could suggest few ore CPU's in the $200 range

Yikes, didn't realize PcPartsPicker linked it like that. The processor is only $75

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 645 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor ($75.12 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $75.12
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Click the "PartsList" link at the top for the proper price.

EDIT: It appears despite still being advertised, this processor is no longer available at the suggested retail outlet.

Here are some more (less pricey) upgrades from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/AMD-Athlon-630-2800MHz-Retail/dp/...

Thanks!

I see, what I am thinking is if I am buying a new cpu then well i'll buy a good one...

the one you provided are all used ones, there are no new ones which I can buy

so how are these(they support AM3 socket):

http://www.amazon.com/AMD-FD6300WMHKBOX-FX-6300-6-Core-...
this looks almost equal to an i5

http://www.amazon.com/AMD-Unlocked-Processor-FD4350FRHK...

You're only going to get a used processor at this point I'm afraid. Your motherboard is old, and therefore uses the AM3 socket, NOT the AM3+ socket which the processors you listed utilize. If you want to spend $200, you can buy a new motherboard and CPU combination.

For example, this: http://www.amazon.com/MSI-A78M-E35-Bolton-Micro-Motherb...

And this: http://www.amazon.com/AMD-Athlon-Processor-AD760KWOHLBO...

For about $135. And get even better performance than the older AM3 processors I listed (and you can overclock if you want. :D )

This looks quite a steal price but I think I won't be able to run Watch Dogs on reccomended settings? https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5HYU76B3x5YWjBQdk5MbF...

is it ok for next 3 years gaming? I won't mind spending few more $$ if I can get a better cpu and motherboard.

Thanks a lot Iron124 for all your efforts btw :)

The "recommended" settings for Watch Dogs is ridiculous, I'd be willing to bet that you could still run the game at some pretty decent settings with that CPU. You can get a better CPU, but that's currently the best available for AMD's FM2 socket. You could go intel, but that's a slippery slope with price and could wind up costing you $300. AM3+ is another option, but is a dying socket and likely will be replaced by 2015 or 2016.

Your budget limits you to what you wanna do, and if you do wind up spending $300, and get a new motherboard, at that point you might as well continue saving, get up to around $550, and build a great budget gaming PC.

$550 overall you are saying? I mean gpu+cpu+motherboard+ram=$550?

If thats then yes I have $around $600 to spend in total for this rig.
Also if something great(new cpu's/gpu's) is coming in next 1-2 months I am willing to wait and then I can also add $150 more from my next months salary hehe

If you have some more free time then can you tell a decent rig for anything around $700 ?

Thanks a lot man...

You want Watch Dogs? This'll play Watch Dogs. High settings, easily. Not to mention anything else you can throw at it.

^^ Awesome, just what I wanted but instead of Intel I would go for AMD as I do some browser realted work(10-12 tabs open most of the time) and there are some programs open in the background mostly.

For CPU am looking at http://www.amazon.com/AMD-FD8350FRHKBOX-FX-8350-FX-Seri...

Also I already have some things you mentioned, like:
1 tb HDD
corsair vs650W
case
optical drive

so overall I can cut around $130
