I have an AMD athlon 6400+, windows 7. I have to use flash, which uses 100% of my cpu often. Should I replace the cpu with a quad core phenom x4 (have to stay with AM3), swap my hard drive with a ssd I put in a dual core i7 620m laptop, or switch to linux or xp? I have 3 gig of ram, and very little money to upgrade. Or switch everything to the laptop? (not preferred, it is out of the house very often)

Any hints or suggestions? btw, I am not a gamer, but I do use vmplayer often.

Get a quad core.

Thanks for the reply. That is the obvious solution, but the cores on a quad do not run nearly as fast as the 6400+. When I look at the cpu benchmarks, theres not a huge advantage. I can get a quad for under 50.00, but what I run may actually run slower, since I have to use a lot of legacy software due to compatibility requirements. (Hence the vmware) Unfortunately, the slowdow seems linked to flash, and I can't roll versions back far enough to get away from it

Well then - get a new cpu and motherboard. The other proposals won't stop the 6400 bottlenecking your pc.
