My sapphire radeon r9 270x 2gb with oc and boost is really loud and the fans spin so fast when I play games like watch dogs, why and are the fans meant to spin so fast?
monitor your gpu temperature while it is loud and you can customize your gpu fan speed by msi after burner or sapphire trixx software according to your need ...
I realise temperature will increase so the card needs to stay cool, but when I start playing the fans are quite silent, but they then suddenly become very very loud and spin very fast

check your gpu temperature is it becoming too hot? check ur case ventilation and airflow........ at full load sapphire r9 270x noise level is around 40 db(A) and rpm around 2000 - 2500 .....
Thank you, I have tried to alter the fan speed but they keep spinning very fast, at about 100% Id say, airflow is good, should the noise be like the sound of a vacuum cleaner when I try play games on ultra ?
at 100% the noise can be very much irritating try to use a headphone instead of speaker it will help u ....... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bO8mR8GLF8o

I agree, here's a recording I made, sounds like a razor. http://youtu.be/ehI8jOtaDUM just feels like it shouldn't be that loud. I heard it was meant to be cool and quiet.
omg it really sounds like a razor ...... if u buy it new then replace it and before doing that check if the grafix card is well fitted and the fans are getting some kind of friction ....

How can I check if the fans are getting friction ? Should I put the PC on its side, or put something under the graphics card to hold it up firmly, could there be some vibrations from somewhere ?
check if the gpu is screwed properly rotate the fans manually with your hands and see that they are moving freely or not and if the gpu is a tight fit in your case then check if it is touching your case .....also u can check u r card in a friends pc ... and if all these attempts fails then visit the nearest sapphire service center and speak to them about your problem and also show them the video of noise ...
Sure seems like something is wrong with the card. All the reviews I read about the Sapphire R9 270X Toxic claim that they are one of the quietest cards. I would return it to the vendor or back to Sappire for warranty repair.
