Hi. What are some cpu intensive games? The one I play is The Old Republic and I heard that is very cpu intensive. Would an 8350 be better for cpu intensive games or 4790k?
I know that intel has stronger ipcs thsn amd, but what about games eventually using more cores?
Also is an Asus M5a78lm 760 board good for an 8350?

A 4690K is plenty for gaming as the i7 and i5 have the same gaming performance. You also need to have a good GPU that can get really high FPS. 4 cores is enough for games. 6 cores has not been optimized in most games yet.

Don't worry about the Intel thing. AMD cpu's are good. With all of those cores running, in CPU intensive games it'd be on the same level as a Haswell. That said, have you tried Hitman Absolution? That's pretty CPU based. Also you can try Watch Dogs. It burns a CPU to hell.

The real thing is to get a good GPU. For example, i7 4770K+R9 280x performs a bit less than 8350+R9 290x. But that's hardly 5-6 FPS in the 50+ mark. Don't worry 8350 does fine while saving quite some money that you can put into GPU's. But DO decide that you'll not use things like Sandra which are based on single-threaded performance as you'd see serious performance gap with the intel one (Like about 10mins gap in big>1GB edits in Photopro). As far as gaming is concerned 8350 literally sails.

Even if a game uses more cores, the AMD octo core is basically 4 intel cores split into 8 and assigned there own thread while the intel is the split cores put together then MORE threads. But AMD's price to performance is so much better and also motherboards on the AMD side are alot cheaper, that board should be fine, overclocking on that might not be very big as thats what you want to do with the 8350 but that usually depends on your cooler but you should be fine

But intel chips have better durability and can last longer than AMD CPUs. I'm not hating on AMD, I love their products and I've never gone wrong with them, it's just that gaming is usually dominated by Intel. Also, AMD is not making any new FX CPUs so there is no upgrade path you can take once you get to the end of the line of AMD CPUs

The "Total War" games are pretty CPU intensive.

Works a lot better on Intel CPUs.

Essesntially it's still 4 cores. But 8 threads. Just like Piledrivers are 8 cores, but it's essentially 4 modules sharing the same L1 chache. Still, intel has better single threaded performance. But again, the difference is not noticable in most games with a good GPU
