FPS drops in all games!

Hey guys!

I wanted to know a solution to my problem which has been occurring from a long time. Its about FPS drops. Every game I play, whether it requires low or high graphics, I experience FPS drops. My FPS drops so low that the game starts framing and the sound distorts/stops/breaks.
At first I tried updating my graphic drivers to the latest ones. Still the problem existed. Finally after sometime, I formatted my PC, re installed the drivers and installed the games. Now its been likely to a month after formatting and I am still getting the FPS drops. The drops occur for 15-20s after every 10 seconds of gameplay.

Some games :-
Call of Duty 4 : Modern Warfare
Counter-Strike 1.6
DOTA 2
Need for Speed : The Run
Need for Speed Most Wanted
Hitman Absolution

My Specs :-
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit
Original RAM: 2 GB Kingston DDR2/PC2-5300 RAM (333 MHz) 1.8V
Hard Disk: 500GB HDD
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+ (2 CPUs), ~2.4GHz
DirectX: DirectX 11
Graphic Card: AMD Radeon HD 5450
Motherboard: ASUSTek M2N-MX SE Plus

All the above is good advice but I would add the best solution is a new PC that one really is too dated now to be worth upgrading.

Sir, I don't even know where to start :D

0) Check your CPU and GPU temperatures, and check whether your coolers have accumulated dust and clean them. Are all fans spinning?
1) Your CPU is too weak for modern games, because it only has two (slow) cores. You should upgrate to any quad core CPU compatible with your motherboard.
2) Your RAM should be at least 4GB, with 8GB recommended.
3) This graphics card is very slow for any decent settings and resolutions. A minimum recommendation would be R7 260X or, even better, R7 265. If you prefer low power consumption, the best solution is Geforce 750Ti.
4) What is your power supply? It might need an upgrade too.

I would recommend going for at least 4gb of memory for Windows 7 64Bit. Your computer might be doing memory swapping. That is writing from the memory to the harddrive, then again from the harddrive to the memory. This all takes painfully long time (from the memory perspective). And could be causing your FPS drops.

Sounds like an overheating issue somewhere. I would recommend logging your hardware temps. If hardware gets too hot it will throttle itself down until it thinks it's safe to start working at full speed again, or just shut off completely in extreme cases.
