A question from someone who is not an IT-pro...I have a 2 newish HP DVI monitors (HP model LP2275W) and an older Dell desktop, with a VGA and a DVI output. My question involves connecting the second monitor, with the first monitor connected to the DVI output. It seems I have 3 possible options:
1. HP does sell a DVI-VGA cable (but it's about $40)
2. buy an expensive converter
3. Use the USB output on the monitor and one of the available USB ports on the computer.

It's this third option I most interested in, as it seems the least expensive. What do I need to be aware of it terms of additional software I might need (DisplayLink?) or types of USB ports (does it need to be a USB 2.0 port?).

Any thoughts or simple alternatives appreciated.

You can either use DVI-VGA cable or just simple reduction. Like reduction or cable.

If they want 40 for one cable look elsewhere that is too expensive you can buy it much cheaper as I linked.

Most important is to have DVI-I input on monitor (which it has) and cable have to be dvi-i to vga (otherwise it wont work)
