Gtx 780 exceeding its core clock speed

I have a Palit GTX 780 jetstream and it has clock of 902MHz (Base) / 954MHz (Boost). ....
However I was playing Assassin's Creed Black Flag and using msi Afterburner I noticed the card got upto 1093mhz and remained there..... I check on other games and had same result..... I used gpu z to monitor it and had same result of clock exceeding upto 1093 mhz......
So want to know is it good or bad? does it happen to anyone? Is it common ?
my specs:-
CPU - i5 4670k @ 3.4Ghz
Graphic card - Palit jetstream GTX 780
HDD - Seagate 1TB
MoBo - gigabyte ga z87m d3h
Cabinet - cm elite 311
PSU - corsair vs 650
RAM - Corsair value select 2*4gb 1333mhz

Sorry, started to say that Afterburner overclocks the card so your extra speed was normal result of using that utility. But then I realized you probably just used Afterburner to read the speed, not change it. In any event modern GPUs have the ability to change their speed depending on heat and demand, between that and Afterburner your card is probably behaving normally.

however I used gpu-z and closed msi afterburner to monitor it and got the same results of higher clock speed of 1019-1093mhz......

yes that is normal. It is just the Boost2,0 feature, it 'overclocks' the card automagically within certain safety parametres defined by nvidia. The Boost clocks cited in the specs are pretty much the worst case scenario clocks, every card should achieve those with ease, most do much better in a typical case with moderate airflow.

so overcloking it to say about 100mhz it will increase boost clock and may even give better clock speed than boost clock???

Well technically it still is using the boost clocks, the whole thing is rather dynamic and will use the highest clocks it can achieve within the parametres. The boost clocks are not static like the clocks on older cards were.
And if you overclock it manually you're increasing the base clock, the boost clocks are added on top of that, so the real effective clocks might (and will) vary depending on the load/game.

okay so if a change my base clock to say about 1ghz , relatively my boost clock will change and in games like it previously used to do may even increase the boost clock????

yes, with 1ghz base you'd be somewhere 1200-1250Mhz with boost IF the card feels like doing it. It might hit the temp/power limit and throttle down back to the 1100Mzh range you were at stock.
