okay so i cloned my 160g drive on to my new 1tb drive but right after i did it said that the 1tb was only 160g so i expanded just the main partition to take up the rest of the unalocated space so then after that i shut down and tried disconnecting the 160 and just booting of the 1tb but it has errors and says stuff like the drive is locked and things but then when i plug the 160back in i boot no problem off the 1tb and the computer says its running windows 8.1 off of the 1tb but why wont it boot by itself?

Try swapping the SATA cables over on the old and new drives, so in effect the system will see the location of the new drive where the old one used to be.
