Windows 8.1 - explorer.exe won't run?

Yesterday, I was installing a program and my computer restarted while it was trying to install. When it turned back on I logged in but there was nothing there. No desktop, wallpaper, icons, task bar, only the back light of the computer itself was on. The windows key doesn't work either.

When I hit ctrl, alt, delete it gives me the usual options to Lock, Switch User, Sign Out, and Task Manager. I opened up Task Manager, opened "run a new task" I tried "explorer.exe" but nothing happened. So I clicked "Browse" and opened my "Downloads" folder into a new window and then found my internet browser and that's how I got to this forum.

I ran MalwareBytes and found that I have 58 threats and most of them were the "Wajam" virus but I was unaware because of my adblock. I tried getting into Safe Mode, but I couldn't find it on Windows 8.1. I got to the Advanced Recovery Mode and tried all of the options there but I kept getting errors.

I tried doing a system restore but I was given the error "0x800700b7" at least I think that's what it said. I have AVG 2014 and I heard that security programs sometimes blocks the system restore process. I tried running AVG to turn off any protections limiting me but AVG automatically stops responding upon startup.

I tried running CMD prompt sfc/scannow but I was given an error saying, computer is pending a system repair and I would need to restart and try again. I would try to uninstall AVG from the control panel but I don't know how to find it without being able to search for it haha.

Anyone know what I should try next? Thanks!

That's what I would recommend. if you had Wajam... I'm positive you had stuff like Snap Do and other rouge ware.

Reinstall and just be cautious what you download and install and where you get it from. A good resource is http://www.shouldiremoveit.com/ It has a lot of those types of programs. If you are ever unsure, check it out on that site.

(most of that stuff comes packaged in with other installers and can be prevented by looking through the "advanced" options in the programs you are installing. If they are from an iffy source that is.

and my last bit of info is for an antivirus, check out webroot it has time and time again been my go to for its...

Both the refresh ans restore failed with errors. Its a Lenovo G560 Laptop. I've been transferring my important files to an external in case I need to reinstall Win 8.
