Will this build work? (how can I make it better)

hi guys,

I have put together two pc builds and am hoping for some good advice to see if these builds are any good or if they're even compatible. If you could recommend any chops and changes that would be great, im not wanting to spend more than £500 on a pc because I still need to buy the monitor, keyboard and mouse. I'd like to be able to play bf3 on pretty good settings (if possible)

I would go with your build 2, but add cpu cooler from build 1. It is just good to have, regardless of ocing or not. also, 7970 is the same as r9 280x, so get r9 since it is newer, and 7970 may not be in stock. No complaints on other components, ssd is nice to have. And this combo will be good enough for bf4, let alone bf3.

I would also go with build 2 and maybe get a high watt psu because I know some AMD graphics cards tend to use more watts than nvidia ones and I might change the case because that case seems somewhat overpriced depending on your perspective.
