Card worked fine but all of a sudden, nothing

My kids computer is an emachines model ET1331G. It has a GeForce8500GT in the PCI-e slot. This card worked fine for me for a couple years and then fine for my son for a year or two. All of a sudden it just quit working. The Graphics card still works, I've tested it, but for some reason the computer has just stopped acknowledging that it exits. I have tried everything I could think of and then scoured the internet for tips, but I've come up with nothing. I'm REALLY hoping that the pci-e port isn't just shot. Any ideas that might help?

Yes the on-board card is still functional. Yeah a new PC would be great, but this is an extra computer that the kids use. The on-board works fine for almost everything except for video games. My son plays World of Warcraft with me and the on-board is just too slow. Guess I will just call to see how much to get the pci-e port tested, and if it's shot...... Oh well no WoW for him on that computer lol. Like most people we don't have the cash to just pop out and buy a new computer when the fancy hits us.
