Well... I've had some <mod edit> luck the last couple of days.. first my new gigabyte motherboard stopped working, all of a sudden, while trying to fix my cables and make it look better.. and after that, i spent about a day trying to figure out what was wrong, and it turned out it was the mobo
Now today, I decided to try and build a new mining rig with and old mobo that I have, which has a lot of problems to begin with, Only one of the 4 ram slots is actually working, so the mobo itself causes random BSODs once in a while.

Anyway, to my main problem:
So I got my rig up, which has the following:, (which was not built in a case. I was only using the part where the standoffs for the motherboard should be)

* Asus M4N68T http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M4N68T/
* Crucial Ballistix 4GB Ram
* 3x R9 280X VAPOR-X With risers
* EVGA Supernova 1300W Gold

So I got it all plugged in, turned on the PC and damn, the motherboard just caught fire pretty close to the ATX Pin it was also resting on the normal metal standoffs, if that makes any difference

Does anyone know what happend? was it to much for the motherboard? That's what I think.. but I'm not an export, so i'm hoping for an answer.

Thanks in advance

Solution
" was also resting on the normal metal standoffs" resting on or screwed into?

the fire appears to be right at one of the screw holes which makes me think the standoff it was resting on at that spot bridged metal and caused a short

I think I might have forgotten that screw now that I think about it.. is that what could've caused the fire?

I still can't quite picture where your board was sitting but Any case metal touching under the board can cause this exact thing -you either need a non-conductive surface or else have the board properly aligned and screwed down into a standoff

I do feel kinda stupid now.. but i've been so stressed these last days so i guess I just forgot it. But i'm not gonna cry over spilled milk, this was an old-barely-working motherboard. Guess I'll just have to get myself another one

Thanks for the answer thought, I really appreciate it

You know the part where the motherboard goes inside of a PC case? I took that part out and put the motherboard on it, outside of the case

It's been with me for 4 years now, but since it didn't really work properly, I guess I'm fine with it.. my first fried boardt though. Lesson learned!
