I know APU's suck ass right now but if I put this gpu in here would I just be dragging it down with the igpu, should I turn that off or run crossfire with the 270x

More about : putting 270x 6800k

is crossfire compatible?
I didn't think it was? Either way, just use the card normally and disable the iGPU. The card is capable enough anyways, so you shouldn't need to worry.

The BEST you can pair that APU with is an HD6670, and it's called "Dual Graphics" when using an APU + Discrete card.

The R9-270X is a lot more powerful than the iGPU in the APU you have. I don't have any benchmarks handy, just this: http://www.hwcompare.com/15688/radeon-hd-6670-oem-vs-ra...

As said, just install the new card, hookup the monitor to the discrete card. I'm not sure if the iGPU is disabled automatically or not. If not, you may have to disable it prior to adding the discrete card.

Update to the latest AMD drivers.

Nononononononononono

The only thing you can crossfire with that APU is a 6000 Series Card (6670, 6570, etc)

The Kaveri APUS (7000 series) are the only ones compatible with the new R series radeon cards.

Did you expect anything different to happen? Both are simply discrete GPUs and one is just more powerful than the other.

No im only asking if the 6800k cpu part will bottleneck the 280x
