I am planning to go for

Intel® CoreTM i5-4690 3.5 GHz Quad Core LGA1150 Socket Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.90 GHz)

I was wondering if its a bad idea with the thermal compound fiasco .. I am specifically not going for K as i will not overclock... still .. any i5 users of 4670 or 4690 around who had to shove a blade in their brand new cpu to replace the paste?

More about : intel care thermal compound

I use a 4670K on one rig and a 3570K on the other and neither one has really experienced any thermal problems. The 4670K I have running steadily at 4.0 GHz with the turbo boost enabled and all cores unlocked. The thermal problems really start happening once you start overclocking and only then it's very minor if you have a solid heat sink or liquid loop installed. On a locked processor you won't need to worry about that.
