How to choose cooling fan for my cpu?

I'm sorry in advance about the bad grammar, I am not english...
So, my 5 years old desktop pc with this configuration
-AMD Phenom II X4 940, 3.0 Ghz (am2+ socket)
-4 GB ddr2 ram, 800 mhz
-nvidia gt 220 (I miss you, 9800 gt T_T)
-asus m4n72-e motherboard
-500 W power supply
is lately causing an annoying noise, much louder when I play games or open cpu intensive software. I have to choose a new fan for the cpu (which reachs, and sometimes exceeds, 70 celsius degrees), but how much would a quiet and cool fan approximately cost?
Will it be easy to mount on my pc, like, do I switch it with the old one with just a screwdriver or will I have to do some hard work? I heard someone say sometimes you need to pull out the mobo...
Also, is the fan socket related? I don't know how much time is left for my old cpu before it dies and I replace it with an am3(or more)...

Sadly newegg does not send items in Italy T_T I'll see if I can find it here..

edit: i don't know how on earth I did this sh*t of quoting two guys while answering only one of them..sorry, I'm kind of new on this site.
Anyway, the only thing I can read on my case is "Coolermaster"...nothing else.
I didn't buy the case separately though, my father bought a prebuilt pc.

The Hyper 212 EVO is a GIANT cooler. Open your case and take a ruler or measuring tape and make sure you have more then 16cm clearance from the motherboard to the side panel. Mounting it is fairly straight forward but if you have never done anything like that before then I suggest doing a you tube search for "installing Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO". This will show you the process and it should go smoothly from there.

I think you will be pleased, when I switched out my stock cooler I was amazed at how quiet the system became. I didnt realize that little fan alone was responsible for all that noise.

The best part about the 212 EVO is that the Fan easily detaches so you can upgrade it with the fan of your choosing, say a nice Noctua Model. It also comes with clips so you can attach a second fan onto it. With two fans you can have one pulling air on one side and pushing air out on the other.

Holy cr*p, it's giant! I checked inside and 16 cm were fine, because externally the case is more than 19 and the mobo really takes little space, but now that I searched for a 212 evo to buy in Italy I read the measures are 13 x 10 x 18 o_O
Hope 18 cm is not the measure to be put between the case sides, that would be impossible....

I have (3) of these units and they do only extend 16cm from base plate to the tips of the heatpipes on top. the cases I use are only 19cm wide in total so if the 212EVO was really 18cm I would be hosed.

I forgot to mention: you will want to make sure your case has ventilation on the top. on an AMD system this cooler only mounts pointing up or down, it will not direct airflow to the back of your case for cross flow like most Intel systems. you will also want to make sure your Power Supply is on the bottom of the system. IF your Power supply is mounted on top it might get in the way of your new Godzilla Cooler.

Here is a video to walk you through mounting:

Let me know if you have any questions.

Bad, my psu is right on the top, and I don't think I can change it's position on this case...also I know nothing about air flow and other stuff..I could google for it like I usually do when I have a problem, but I am in trouble with a close, very important, exam and can't really dig the internet like I did before...I was thinking, if I post some pictures of the case with its components, could you give me some advice on how to move on? Anyway I appreciate your help so far, thanks...

I am happy to help any way I can but honestly things like power supplies are not really movable, if it mount at the top then that is where it is at. You are still welcome to post pictures. If the P/S has a large intake fan on the bottom and it lines up with where the 212 is mounted then you would blow yours CPU exhaust heat into the PS and out the back. Not ideal but still workable.

Another option is a new case. you can pick one up for as little as$30 and even the cheap ones have bottom mounted P/S these days.

Post me some pics and let me see. get a few different angles and give me some close ups of the P/S.
