I'm trying to build a PC for modding Skyrim. I'm stuck between an FX-8350 and an FX-6300. Is there any benefit to the 8350 over the 6300 on this particular use? I'll be running it with a Sapphire r9 290x, 8gb of RAM, 1 Tb HDD, and between 120 and 240 Gb SSD.

Skyrim is a CPU intensive game, so there would be gains with the 8350, but not that much. If you have the money, the 8350 is a good choice, but the 6300 will also suit your needs pretty well.

Will the 6300 still allow for me to run everything on high settings with a decent fps?

Yes, the difference between those two CPUs in vanilla Skyrim are minimal, and even a heavily modded version isn't going to be a problem for the 6300. And it is $60 less so you've got that going for you which is nice :)

8350 all the way man, don't shoot for anything less than that for modding skyrim.

Thanks. I like overkill, but I think I'll go with the 6300. Is there any sense in putting that money towards a liquid cpu cooler?

Well, you could get something like the Corsair H60 for $50, it will give bett6er temperatures than something like the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO, but this one sells for $30, so you just have to find the right balance between price and performance, depending of the kind of overclocking you're going to do.

And of course there are the beefier solutions like the H100i or the Cooler Master Glacer 240L for around $100. The Glacer 240L is an incredible cooler, usually selling for $120-130 but now it is $100 and if you want to achieve some extreme overclocks, it is the right solution, but it may be kind of overkill for an FX 6300.
