Hello

I plan to fire up my new custom built rig for the first time very soon and I can't wait.

My motherboard is a gigabyte ga-z87x-d3h. Out of the box it does not support the new 4th gen i5 (4690k). Will I have trouble booting for the first time without the updated bios? If so, how should I go about booting up for the first time.

if it wont boot the only options you have are use a supported CPU just to update the BIOS or return the board and get one that has the new revision of BIOS or return the board to the manufacturer and have them flash the bios. these are the options. It may post and run enough for you to flash the bios but it may not. If it does not I recommend having a friend loan you a CPU for a couple of hours to flash your bios to get up and running.

Fire it up. You will be fine. Bios on the mobo should pick up the CPU just fine. Make sure the cpu cooler firmly attached and also double check your component connections. Happy computing.

Hopefully it posts long enough to flash the bios. One of my buddies might have an i5 I can borrow for a couple hours if not. Thanks for your answers everyone.
