Is the Corsair CS550M psu good enough for my new gaming rig? Please help...

I am planning to get myself a new pc this month. This will be my second one (my old pc was a useless Pentium III that is >14 years old). I will be using the new one mostly for 3D animation and graphics, video editing, gaming and movies. Please suggest a good psu for these specs:

Intel Core i5 4670
Asus Z87-A motherboard
Corsair 4GB 1600 Mhz DDR3 RAM
Asus AMD R9 270X 2GB GDDR5 graphics card
Seagate 1TB 7200rpm HDD
LG DVD writer
Cooler Master Elite 431 plus pc case

Is the Corsair CS550M good enough for this config? Or should I go for a 600W psu?

Also, in the near future, I plan to add an extra stick of RAM, another fan in the cabinet for better cooling and a decent sound card. Will the above PSU be able to handle this extra load as well?

Thanks in advance.
:)

  1. It's not a great power supply it has poor capacitors.

Here's a great deal on a SEASONIC made 650w power supply.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

Power Supply: XFX 650W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($49.99 @ NCIX US)
    Total: $49.99
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available
  2. 550W is enough, leaves you room for upgrades as well. But i would rather go with the Rosewill HIVE 550W powersupply instead http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182131
it's cheaper but it has a better built quality than that corsair one.
  3. Corsair has more entry level PSUs and really wouldnt go with one unless you absolutely had to. Go with XFX they have great PSUs
  4. The reason i wouldn't go for the XFX but the rosewill one is that it's semi-modular(better cable management in your case) and that it's not so expensive.
  5. Thank you all so much. I am a newbie here, I didn't think I'd get answers so promptly! Thanks again.
Since I am from India, the XFX and Rosewill psus aren't easily available here (locally, where I live) . So I don't have too many options. How good is Cooler Master and Seasonic? Could anyone suggest a good model?
  6. Seasonic is the only way to go 550 or 650 watt.

Never owned a Seasonic or Cooler Master before but here one that has good reviews as far as I can find. I dont believe cooler master makes many reputable mid range PSUs

  8. Seasonic is one of the top 2 in the power supply industry.
  9. Okay, I'm gonna go with the Seasonic S12 II 620w psu. I finally made up my mind. Can't wait to assemble my new rig! This has been so very helpful. Thanks a ton for your advice! :)
