Hi there,

Shuttle sz87r6
8gb corsair value select ram CMV8GX3M2A1600C11
i7 4790s (65 watts)
Nothing else connected except for ATX power, front panel and fan.

System powers up for 3 seconds, power supply and cpu fans spin, then power supply relay audibly clicks and it shuts off. 3 seconds later it turns on again and repeats.

I've tried with no ram, each stick in each slot with no change. With no CPU nothing happens at all.

Have I missed some jumper settings, a power lead or is either the MB or CPU bust?

All the best,

Snutty

You have to connect both the 24 pin ATX power and the 4 (or 8 pin, depending on the motherboard) extra CPU power. If you did those, then the problem is most likely a PSU.

Is there any way of trouble shooting this without another psu, cpu or ram stick?
I can't see any L.E.D.s on the MB and there is no beeping.

Tested with a second PSU, same issue.

So it could be a bios issue. Sticker on the MB says: SZ87R000.102, the processor I have is supported by bios revision SZ87R000.201

Next question, how the hell do I update the BIOS without a functioning processor!?
