how can I track another phone by its phone number

no... but if they have an iphone you can track it with the app "find my iphone"... though you'll have to add that app to their phones through your appstore account.

i know avast! mobile security has some phone tracking abilities as well if they're on android... i know i set it up to track my nexus7 tablet, and i can check where it is online through my avast! account (i can even wipe it remotely, just like the find my iphone app, personally i like the avast! solution better then the find my iphone app, because it actually keeps a minute by minute location "map" so you can check where it was at any one time on any one day... it also sends out a distress email with it's location if it runs out of battery power... pretty cool) if you get the avast! antitheft app and have gps on the phones. Both apps are free on both platforms... though you need an avast! account (i use the free avast! antivirus on my pc, which is where i got my avast! account).
