Hey.

I may have a silly question.

But I have 8GB Kingston HyperX T1 Series 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM 1066 MHz.
This model (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...) - Just 8 GB (2x4).

I can fine run games like Battlefield 4, etc. - Is there much difference if I upgrade to DDR3 1600 MHz RAM?
I know that I probably need to upgrade the CPU and motherboard. - But my question is whether there is a big or a huge difference between the ram I have and DDR3 1600 MHz RAM?

My spec:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 @ 2,83 GHz
2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon HD 6970

Thank you!
Have a great day.

With your platform, not much. You can't see the difference. But on the other hand if you upgrade, there is little reason not to see the difference.Modern rams feature lot of stuff XMP profile being my favorite and of course the newer CPU's have much better memory controllers. But if it is the absolute difference in gaming (fps) and other real world applications. There is not a significant difference.

Thanks for the reply.
I didn't know whether there would be a noticeable difference by upgrading.

I think I'll wait with upgrading until I can feel a difference in gamning.
Should I overclock my ram and cpu before I choose to upgrade?

Yes you could. That Q9550 is a wonderful overclocker.Again I will stress this most applications don't benefit RAM overclocking.Unless transcoding or compressing software uses it,even then the only notable thing this worked on is the latest Kaveri APUs(A-10 7850K.etc).there will be lots of guide over the net,and even I think Tom has one regarding overclocking that quad-core.The only next logical solution would be to upgarde to new core-i series,if Intel or the equivalent in AMD.

Just make sure what your motherboard can take(voltages and temps)by googling, and make sure your power supply is up for it.You would require clean current for overclocking!

Anyways,Good luck with O.C,hope you will have a healthy overclock and have a Great Day.

Very few motherboards can take either DDR2 or DDR3 RAM. What model is your motherboard?
