PC starts but shuts down immediately

Recently I built my first computer.
It has very well for 1-2weeks until now.

My water cooler wasn't cooling anymore so I took it off, cleaned the CPU and heatsink and put new thermal paste.

When I put the cooler back I forgot to pull the CPU's lever down to secure it, and when I took it off it was attached to the cooler.
When I detached it, it dropped from about 5-10cm to mono.
I also accidentally grabbed it from the bottom with two fingers (gently), but couldn't see any damage.

Now that I secured the CPU and put the cooler back, my computer didn't start anymore.
It spins the case fans for about 1 round and shows some lights but after ~1s it stops immediately.

Help me?
I hope my CPU's not dead.

List of parts:
i7-4770k
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780 TI OC
16GB (2x8) Crucial Ballistix Sport
MSI Gaming 3 Z97 (don't remember the real name)
3 TB WD Black
260GB Samsung SSD
Corsair H100i

Solution

Take out the CPU, leave the CPU socket open (just make sure the lever isn't touching anything) and power up the system. If the system stays ON, then the problem is either the CPU, or some pins in the socket which shorts when the CPU presses on them. If the system immediately powers OFF as before, the mobo is damaged (assuming that no pins from the socket are touching).

EDIT: please also verify the back of the CPU for missing components (it has a few dozens...

Re-apply thermal paste?
Could it be if the heatsink touches the cpu without thermal paste, because in the corners it didn't apply too well?

Still no...
Could it be because of a faulty PSU?
Or have I broke my CPU?

Did you check if the CPU lever is OK? Maybe you bent it when you put the cooler head back and now it has not enough force to push the CPU onto the socket.

I think it is fine, at least you had to use some force to get it down, and the cpu didn't move a bit in there.

Okay, so it actually turned on without the CPU...
I hope my CPU's not dead, can't really afford a new one.

How could I be sure about this?

Hey! I'm having the same issue and just tried this. Ran the system without the CPU and it stayed on. Is my CPU dead then? Can't really get a good view of the sockets on the mobo to see if anything is bent.
