Buying

Intel 3.4 GHz LGA 1150 4670 i5 4th Generation Processor

for budget $1000 gaming system.

How good is this buy for future gaming? My budget is allowing me to reach this high and its intel based system, so amd is not an option.

I know that no one can look into the future, but one can guess based on past experiences

Can this cpu last me for next say 5 years of gaming?

Get this system for your budget and it will last you 5 years easily. The i5 2500k from wayback 2011 can still run most games on ultra. So the 4690k or 4670 or 4670k by my predictions, will run all the games for the next four years on ultra, and then it will run games on high for another 2 years by which time you will be able to upgrade. Like you said, nobody can look into the future so nobody can really give you a definitive answer. If it helps, I've had my 2500k for three years and I've no intention of upgrading it soon. Granted, I can overclock it to narrow down any performance deficit between newer processors though.

Considering that hyper-threading has been around for so long and that developers haven't taken advantage of it yet, I don't why they would suddenly do so now. Your i5 should certainly be good for a few years.

it depends, life span yes most likely.
but it depends on the user, you may or may not be content with the performance even only after 2 yrs. or if you are happy with it then 5yrs is not impossible (like if it's ok for you to play on low settings), this is the same for gpu.

me, well, i usually upgrade every 2 yrs, gpu and cpu. But my cpu, 2500k, it's the longest that i have kept i think, because it is overclocked. and i can OC it some more if needed

I myself us a q6600 from 2006 and am going to take a step forward to the 4670( since haswell refresh is not available in my country). Anyways here's the best build for your price. If you don't need an os you can get an r9 280x or just get an r9 280 to finish within 1000 bucks: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/TpTsnQ

I think the life of your build is based on you as the user..are you happy with it? Do you feel its lacking? Those are questions only you will be able to answer as time passes and new games/applications come out that might be more system intensive. There are people still rocking i5 2500k's that probably won't even upgrade until skylake or so because their still happy with their setup.

I'd say your setup will certainly last you for some time but it all depends on you.
