As much as I debated those who were thinking of doing the same, I'm actually happy I did. With a micro center being around the corner I purchased mine for 279.99 and pretty much sold my used i7 4770k for the same (minus shipping).

I've got to say it definitely is a much better overclocker than my i7 was (couldn't get it to even stay stable at 4.4Ghz) Right now I'm sitting at 4.7 Ghz at 1.125 volts and temperatures are totally fine. I think the base clock difference at least justified my case, although I suppose if I had to pay the full price and didn't get as much for my i7 as I did I'd probably be a bit more hesitant.

Anyone else having much better luck with their 4790k in terms of overclocking?

I was unable to get my 4770k completely stable at 4.2, So I got an Asus hero z97 board and a 4790k currently I'm using an old H100 so I decided not to o'c it until I'll replaced it and used decent paste I only had MX2 when it arrived. When I do I'll post how I got on. From what I've read elsewhere your at the better end of the average results recorded.

Yeah I was very annoyed with my i7. I got it stable at 4.3 @ 1.125 volts but I wasn't happy with that at all. I was able to get it to 4.8Ghz but it ended up crashing after a few hours so I'll probably have to play with the settings a bit more. Overall definitely happy with my swap and ill probably keep this setup for awhile unless broadwell sways me.
