Help picking processor for future project.

Solution
Yeah, it would work just like any of the other haswell pentiums, though if you aren't going to be overclocking at all you may want the hyperthreading of an i3 depending on what your future project is. It's just that the Pentium is something liek 70-75 bucks where the lowest cost i3's are in the 120 dollar range.

Overclocking when you aren't going for pushing it as hard as you can is pretty straight forward... you quite literally change a number from 32 to 38 and instantly your processor is running at 3800Mhz instead of 3200Mhz... You only need to get in to things like voltage tweaking when you really want to push it as far as you can.

Also, keep in mind that the unlocked multiplier swings both ways, so if you ever wanted to...

Also, keep in mind that the unlocked multiplier swings both ways, so if you ever wanted to re-purpose this machine to be something like a movie watching HTPC box you could actually slow it down and have it use less power since it's going to be sitting idle most of the time, you don't only have to use it for pushing performance higher.
