I've looked all over and cannot find a simple list of the types of RAM slots that tend to be on modern motherboards. Can anyone help me out?

Ahhhh. You are talking about the frequencies that the memory runs at. Most motherboards will run up to 1600 Mhz Natively ( without Overclocking ), but will run Higher...

I know, but when I click into a motherboard listing on Newegg, it always shows a long list of memory slots: for example, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132125 shows "Memory Slots: dual channel DDR3 3200(OC)/3100(OC)/3000(OC),..". I was wondering if it was like this for every motherboard, or if there is some variation.

No, not all motherboard will support the same frequency if that's what you are asking. You can find that information on the manufacturer's website if the store where you're buying from lacks that information.

Normally, high end Z97 motherboards can do 3200MHz+ while H97 can only support up to 1600MHz.

Most are still dual channel but there are some Quad channel boards out there and with the Intel Socket 1366, Tri Channel.

Cool. Good to know, thanks! I guess the followup question would be if the "DDR3 3200(OC)/3100(OC)/3000(OC)/2933(OC)/2800(OC)/2666(OC)/2600(OC)/2500(OC)/2400(OC)/2200(OC)/2133(OC)/2000(OC)/1866(OC)/1800(OC)/1600/1333" is pretty typical for a modern motherboard, or if the overclock limits vary wildly?
