I bought a new motherboard the other day and installed windows 7. Taking up one of my uses of windows (I thinks this is how it works). However, the motherboard is faulty, and therefore I'm waiting for a replacement from amazon, but the board is not in stock, so I'm not sure when I'll get my replacement. Therefore, I want to reinstall my old motherboard so I can access my computer until I get a replacement. However, I'm worried if I reinstall windows on my old board it will use up my last use of the key, which I'm going to need when I get my replacement. I could be completely wrong about this, but I thought just to make sure I would try and get some help online.

When you have multi-user licences you can use them as many times as you like. As long as they are not installed on more machines than the licence permits at any one time.

Example:

Windows licence for upto 4 machines
Installed on 4 machines but one machine dies so you replace it. Effectively you only have it installed on 3 machines now so you can install it on the new machine.

What you cannot do is install AND run it on more than 4 machines at a time.

You may get an activation failed message after installing it as many times as the licence allows, but you just call the number is provides and put the activation key it produces into the automated telephone system and it should be fine, if it doesn't work after that then you can speak...

Okay thanks, I'll install it now :)

ALso --- if you plan to use it for less than 30 days there is no need to even use the key as MS allows a trial use for 30 days so if it will be used for less than that just do not enter the key and it will still install and can be used without the need to activate.
