Hey everyone,

I am looking for a PC build that is capable of playing games at decent quality and recording gameplay without lag. It should also be capable of editing.

I have peripherals such as a keyboard, mouse and monitor, but do not have an OS.

I live in Australia, so keep in mind that some parts may not be available and parts may be at a higher price than elsewhere.

My budget is $800.

Thanks,
RaspyScout.

I wouldn't go much cheaper then that...

Not going to happen on that budget for that requirement even in AUD. Rule of thumb on anyone on Twitch.TV and such is recording or live broadcast cuts the FPS in half. So if your gaming say Watch Dogs at 50FPS boom your down to 25FPS and getting stutters and lags. In order to play current games with decent quality (i.e. on HIGH graphics) and record "WITHOUT LAG" you will need to increase your budget a bit more, as the largest expense will be the capable video card that matches the capable CPU.

Everyone whose done this all says the samething, never had better performance and capability until they got their i7 based computer. It is highly capable for video editing and works very well with the recording dur to the cores it has. Usually your tying this with a Nvidia x60/x70 (770, 860, etc.) card to achieve EXACTLY what your asking for it to do.

While the 750ti sounds nice it's performance isn't "capable of playing games at decent quality and recording gameplay without lag" as the OP requires. The 750s are low end gaming cards, better suited for BF3 and older titles then say recording during WatchDogs or BF4, etc.

Well for the budget I have to work with, 800 AUD IMHO it's descent. If it were 800 US it would be different. The OP could go used of course.

US or AU doesn't matter the hardware still performs the same and thus need to increase the budget to obtain the goal, or change the expectations.

The 750 ti is capable of playing watchdogs and BF4 on low settings and recording without lag, above 30FPS, that is why I recommended it for the price.

First off http://www.gamersnexus.net/game-bench/1472-watch-dogs-gpu-cpu-benchmark - It plays in the '30s' on Medium and Low settings but the OP stated "capable of playing games at decent quality " - low to Medium is NOT decent. Second to that you are mistaken, as recording video WHILE in game is highly demanding and cuts the FPS in half (ask any gf the top Twitch.TV people they all discussed it at least several times why they all had to go to rigs like I was suggesting). So now your down to the teens in FPS while recording NOT "recording without lag" as the OP demands.

Two answers I seen: A) Increase budget B) switch to console (ye syou can record on console) to get the OPs achievement levels within that limited budget.

Low with FXAA @ 1080P is fine for recording, IMHO. It does have enough power to play watchdogs above 30FPS while recording at the settings I just listed. I am not just saying that either, obviuosly you think I don't know what I am talking about here it is from toms... http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/watch-dogs-pc-performance,3833-5.html. Your link above doesn't show it at low settings.

FROM YOUR LINK ABOVE: I will say that the GTX 750 Ti performed extremely well on medium settings and would do better with some card-specific tweaking. For buyers on a stricter budget, that'd be my go-to right now.

I was pointing to what the OP is requiring as the specifics. While you feel is 'fine' and what we both may disagree on 'just being able to play the game is fine enough' it doesn't matter if the OPs goals aren't met.

I noted the link to show specifically I knew what I was talking about, and again the three specifics the OP demands is;
1) capable of playing games at decent quality - Which is HIGH and above setting graphics, we don't get the option here to bump down to Medium or Low, the OP wants the 'eye candy'
2) recording gameplay - While the i5 does a okay job, the i7 would be better, and by all the 'major' people doing this very thing, they ALL had to face they needed a i7 to do recording. This bumps it up above the OPs budget.
3) without lag - I have watched and read too many of the Twitch.TV people talk about how they went and recorded, etc. with a low end GPU only to see lag and low FPS to think they are making it up as your saying. Any recording cuts the performance in half on FPS, this is the basic formula shown time and again (yes looking at the same game footage with different cards and see different FPS shown via FRAPS/MIS Afterburner/etc.).

So all I am saying is, if OP goes 750ti, yes they can "play" the game, in crappy low graphics, get low FPS, and soon as they go recording, BOOM lagging especially during high demand scenes, got forbid he decides to record a Helipod explod on his head in a 64Man Map in BF4.

OP wants what he can't "afford" and either needs to change expectations or increase budget, or best solution, go CONSOLE, and can do EVERYTHING he asks for (including recording) all way below his budget

Okay a 750ti can play Watch Dogs at medium settings at 60FPS with a little OC, and it will look better than a PS4 or XBOX one, they run at 900p and 720p respectively. If the OP puts it on low it will run even faster, while it still being 1080p with FXAA, it will still look better than the console versions. So I stand by what I said, the 750ti does meet the needs of the OP, I answered his question and I did a build that is quite capable. If you don't like that is your opinion, the OP is the one who will decide what he wants not you. Medium settings @ 60FPS @1080p is descent, if it's not to you, oh well... Guess what i don't care. I am not trying to help you, I am helping the OP.

I didn't suggest NexGen, but if your going to toss those in there, your wrong on the " PS4 or XBOX one, they run at 900p and 720p respectively'. It was all the news at E3 http://www.gamespot.com/articles/e3-2014-gta-5-for-xbox-ps4-pc-has-increased-draw-distances-better-resolution-new-wildlife/1100-6420302/ about how good a NexGen ran as compared to a PC, surprisingly, but then looking into the details https://support.us.playstation.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5046/~/change-ps4-video-settings shows it is capable of 1080p, then even more testing shows that PS4 can achieve same level on par with the PC (WOW!) on many titles, http://www.ign.com/wikis/xbox-one/PS4_vs._Xbox_One_Native_Resolutions_and_Framerates . Xbox while can do some it seems the eRam is a problem http://www.gamespot.com/articles/why-do-more-ps4-games-run-in-1080p-than-xbox-one-sniper-elite-dev-explains/1100-6417628/.

Now the newest title AC:U which also be pushed to match PC 'specs' http://www.gamespot.com/articles/report-assassin-s-creed-unity-targeting-1080p-60fps-on-ps4-and-xbox-one/1100-6420580/ .

So offering the OP the a solution IN BUDGET that does perform 1080p@60FPS on the current titles that the OP can record off of for Nexgen consoles is a excellent suggestion too.
