GPU Fan Issue?

Hello people,

I recently installed a GTX 780 ti Classified in my rig and am VERY pleased with the results!! However, since doing so, I have begun to notice that my CPU fans are spinning up quite loudly when I play for example Wolfenstein the New Order or even games that I was playing when I had my overclocked reference 7970. I have exited the game in question a few times and checked the GPU temps and they dont get over 65 degrees (It's an i7 3770k OC'ed to 4.5ghz with a thermalrite silver arrow cooler) I have noticed that one of the coolers fans, the clip on one side at the top has somehow become unseated, and wondered if this could be the issue? Or maybe the CPU fans span up all the time but as my 7970 was considerably louder, I just didn't notice? Either way my cooler has definitely not become unseated as I say the temps I am getting all seem reasonable, I just would appreciate some advice/input as to what could be if anything, causing this? Many thanks in advance!!

Please read his entire post before trying to help, he clearly said his temps are still okay.

OP, it's likely that you just didn't notice before because the 7970 could get loud depending on your cooler. Well, not necesarily LOUD, but more whitenoise which would drown out the sound of your CPU fan. However, it could be that your CPU is working harder in order to keep up with the new, faster GPU which will happen. The 3770k is capable of running two 780 tis without having to worry about keeping up, so in a way you could say that your current 780 ti is bottlenecking your CPU, and the 7970 bottlenecked it even more. Just now with...

Just now with the 780 ti it's bottlenecked a lot less, therefore working more towards its max potential producing a bit more heat. I would see if you can manually set fan speeds with software like Speedfan. http://download.cnet.com/SpeedFan/3000-2094_4-10067444.html If your heatsink fan is connected to the standard 4pin CPU fan header, you should be able to manually set the fan speed if your temps are under 85-90c and you want it to be more quiet. Hope this helps :)

EDIT: Oh, also I should mention that most newer motherboards are capable of controlling the fan speeds in the BIOS. If you haven't checked already, go through your whole BIOS and look for fan speed options, you may be able to change it there and i'd recommend doing that over using software like Speedfan.

Many thanks marshal11, I really appreciate your help and thank you for such a prompt response!! I was not worried as such that my CPU would fry, I just wanted some advice as to the cause and I do seem to think my 7970 was a LOT louder overall than my new GPU which is a lot less bothered when gaming at just 1920 x 1080 on a single screen!!
