High idle temps on an A8 5600k

My AMD A8 5600k is idling around 55 - 60C. It's really bothering me because when I game on it my system bumps up to a very high temperature and just shuts down and restarts. I ordered an H55 from Corsair to help cool but I don't know if it'll keep it cool enough. My EVGA Geforce GTX 660TI runs at around 35C idle so I don't believe it's airflow in my case. When I turn my fans up (using the voltage control on my Define R4), my CPU temperature drops to around 50 - 55, which is a slight improvement but marginally better. If anyone needs the rest of my specs they are on my profile or I will be happy to provide them.

I'm using Arctic Silver 5 if that is important along with the Stock Heatsink.

It could be that you just used too much thermal paste or didn't seat the heatsink properly. Either that, or the stock heatsink is really just shite, but it shouldn't be overheating to the point where your PC shuts down. Either way, once you install the H55, ALL possible problems will be gone. I believe the H55 comes with thermal paste pre-applied and if it does, use it. Artic Silver 5 is outdated now and the stock paste performs like MX-4 and applies perfectly and AS5 can be tricky to apply sometimes. And best of all, no burn in time. Good luck! :)

It comes on tuesday.

How do I fix this until then? I'm sort of low on AS5 now.

I just confirmed that the H55 comes with thermal paste pre-applied, so you can wipe off the existing thermal paste with rubbing alcohol (make sure you use rubbing alcohol!) and try applying again with your AS5. Remember you're only supposed to apply a grain of rice sized dot on the CPU and let the heatsink spread it.

I know it comes with thermal paste and I have some ArctiClean thermal paste remover + purifier. I also used a pea sized dot of thermal paste and let it spread.

I got the H55 (it arrived early, yay!). After installation I noticed something quite weird. The CPU idles at 60ish, just like it did before. I was surprised to see this. What I was really surprised to see after seeing idle temps was that in game, it only went up to about 80 max and stayed around 75 - 80. Is this normal for a watercooler?

the problem is with the stock cooler you need to change it buy cooler master 212 evo or corsair h75 apply good quality thermal paste and you wont have any problems with the cpu temperature..
