Ok, so I restarted my Win 8.1 ASUS motherboard computer, it reloaded to a blue screen, suggested that I use a program to refresh the installation, I did that, and now I'm back to normal, however, it seems the new installation has simply been added to my hard drive along with the old installation, so I have like 17GB of free HD space. i did a little searching in Windows and sure enough windows 8 copied my old installation into a file called Windows.old, now my question is, can i A) Use this to reapply my programs and stuff quickly to the new installation or B) Just delete it altogether and reclaim all my lost HD space and just install my programs from scratch. I would like to just delete it completely, but want to make sure I will regain my HD space before I delete it all.

Yup I deleted it and am reinstalling from scratch like you guys said. Btw for anyone who reads this in the future: After deleting Windows.old, if you cannot use the right click method to delete it all, then use Disk Cleanup and have it remove system files as well as the other stuff. You'll likely get a lot of Try Again or Skip boxes trying the right click - delete method anyways, so you'll wanna use Disk Cleanup there. After that you should have all your old space back and you can begin reinstalling your old programs. Strange how these system crashes can occur, I had simply updated my AV software and it asked for a system restart and then I'm blue screening and having to recover everything. Maybe I should have just clean installed my old Win 7, but oh well too late now.
