I'm not that experienced with computers... I know where all the bits go, what they do and how to assemble it all. I find it all very interesting and I'd like to have a go at building my first PC...

I have a PC at the moment that I've had for many years and have just replaced the odd component here and there... I'd probably keep the hard drive I've got now which I only bought a year ago and I'm not sure i'd need a better CD/DVD drive so that would probably stay. They are both IDE. Which is a question mark... how easy is converting IDE to SATA? Is it really just a case of whacking in an adaptor!?

Anyway, thought I'd share my ideas for a build and see if anyone would like to share their opinions; if they think I'm going to encounter issues etc etc . Any contributions are gladly received, I figure that if I'm gonna build one, I plan to make it as good as possible for as cheap as possible...

Mobo - MSI Z87-GD65-GAMING ATX

CPU - Intel i5 4670K

RAM - 8GB DDR3

PSU - suggestions welcome, I figure I'm gonna need 500W

Case - love the look of Coolermaster cases so probably spend about £50. ATX mobo so I'm restricted to a medium/larger case, right?

I have a decent Dell monitor which will do the trick and other than that, I can't think of anything I'm forgetting!?

From what I've gathered, the dual GPU on the motherboard should suffice for gaming and the sound is easily good enough too...

I'm moving soon and want to start afresh somewhere that I actually get fast internet with something decent to play games on.

I figure this build should do the job?

Spend will be about £450-£500.

Okay, This PSU Antec True Power 750W ATX12V is good for the price. You pick the case, its basically all personal opinion. But the Graphics on the CPU not the motherboard will not suffice for gaming, you will need a dedicated GPU for that. You are going to need a little more cash than that for a gaming rig with that CPU and MOBO.

Budget is flexible... would I need a 750W PSU?

So I need to think about a separate GPU... this is where it gets a bit confusing for me because I don't know the ins and outs of GPUs enough to compare...

Something like an EVGA GeForce GTX 650 1GB?

The 650 isn't a very capable gaming GPU, a 750ti is the very bottom of where to look. If you want a better GPU for 1080P then get a gtx 770 or a 280x.

Very helpful. Thanks a lot.

I assume a CPU cooler isn't essential kit but is 'good practice' for you boys... any other cooling required now that I need a separate GPU?

I feel reluctant to go AMD but it is probably because of my inexperience.
