Hey guys and gals,

I have a bit of a dilemma. I just purchased an i7 4790k, but am unsure which route I should go with a motherboard upgrade. I have a MSI Z77-GD65 at the moment. I should note that I stream video game content and use video editing software. Any words of wisdom would be very much appreciated!

Thanks for the answers!

I'd take a look at the Asus Z97-Pro or their Z97-A...a bit over $200 is the Z97-Hero, that's the one I picked up, the Hero was the best of the Z87 mobos and the Z97 is even better, great mobo!

Thanks for your post! Would it be too much to ask for you to recommend a specific 'best bang for your buck' model for both ASUS or MSI?

Hi, I just bought for myself the Amazing Asus Z97-A and its an excellent motherboard in every aspect, I researched a lot and I wanted the best for my $$$ and that was the choice, I've been using it for over a week and I coudn't be happier, you can do overclock, its Xpert Fan3 is amazing and it looks great to the eye, plus you will save a lot of money buying it over a higher tier option.

Check it out here:

Preferably under 200$, but I'm flexible if need be. I should say that I do prefer MSI's motherboards since I've had one for so long, but again I don't mind venturing away.

If you have a custom water cooling loop i'd look at this, but it's a pretty serious overclockers board
Motherboard: MSI Z97 MPOWER MAX AC ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($234.99 @ Newegg)
Water cooling ready and built in wi-fi/bluetooth.

Not custom loop watercooling and as the name suggests, has some gaming specific features
Motherboard: MSI Z97-GAMING 7 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($179.99 @ Newegg)

Not custom loop watercooling but seriously into overclocking
Motherboard: MSI Z97 MPOWER ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($178.99 @ SuperBiiz)

There hero has double shielding, I have never owned one... I am a little jealous. I personally think all of the boards listed are good, but I'd get an ASUS Hero if I could afford it :D Good luck!
