I have an Inspiron n5010 with an i5 480M.

The core temperatures were getting up to 105 degrees so I took it apart and blew some pretty large clumps of dust out of the fan/heatsink and now its getting up to 85. Is this the normal temperature or should I apply new thermal paste?

Also, its probably been running hot for at least half a year before I noticed, will this shorten its life significantly?

Solution
85 is pretty hot. I would apply new thermal paste. It might be dried up for all we know.
About the laptop life the highest thing you should notice is the battery's decreased ability to hold charge (heat at those temps can kill battery life quickly)
