psu bench test

i just got a hx 1050 psu corsair .but its used.so i would like to test before installing.i simply pluged it ,and then turned on switch and nothing.. should the fan or any lights come on.or does this need to be part of mobo circuit in order to function.would like to know before i tear my p c for nothing.

Google "the paperclip test". It will show you how to turn on the PSU without it being plugged into a motherboard. However this will only test if it turns on. there are cheap psu testers that are ok but can't test under load. To fully test a PSU under a load requires an expensive and large tester.

I'm npt aware of any lights ona PSU. AS for the fan. it could be thermostatically controlled meaning it won't come on until the temp reaches a certain level. There are testers you can get to check those things and they are relatively inexpensive.

hi thank you .not too comfortable with that method . is it possible to use multimeter between those connectors, use voltage .,and will i get reading
but the power unite simple will not turn on unless its plugged into mobo .. at first i was scared that it was faulty but making a circuit makes sense .
