I have followed all the published instructions on how to setup Asus AiCloud. When I browse to the ddns address, I am able to connect using my router's login and password. At that point, I see my home computer that is connected to the router. However, when I click on that computer, another box pops up asking for a login username and password. What is this? I have tried every login and password I can think of and nothing works. I can't find any comments about this in the instruction manual. What am I missing?

Edit to correct typos made in haste

on the host computer windows os sharing settings see if you set a username and password for others to enter to connect to shared resources. it would have been created when you enabled file sharing on your computer for the first time. (its not going to show you the password so you will have to remember it)

It asks for your windows user login. if you're not using a password it wont work. assign a windows password for your user account and Voilà! it will work, trust me. I am searching for a way to not use password though.

I'm having the same exact problem, except I'm using a Mac. I've been going into my Preferences, the Sharing, enabling everything and anything that requires a password I'm using the same password. So, I'm trying to use anything in the Sharing Preferences pane that could look like it's my login ID and the one password I'm using for sharing anything, yet it is still not working. Also, my Asus RT-N66R router recognizes my external hard drive connected to it via USB, but it says it is unmounted and I am unable to get it to mount. These are two separate issues, but I am equally frustrated with both of them. Why does the AiCloud app recognize my iMac, but ask for a username and password? What would be my username? The same one I login to my iMac with? My e-mail address? What would the password be? The same one I'm using for everything? I am at my wit's end and any help is greatly appreciated.

As i said, it asks for your account login on your computer. its probably the same for mac. if you are not using a password when you login on your computer you cant connect to your shared files. i found a solution though but this is for pc. keep in mind that im using swedish languish on my windows 7 so this might not be perfectly translated:
Go to the controlpanel.
click on "network and sharing settings".
in the left column, click "change advanced sharing settings".
in the "home or at work tab", scroll down and you'll see "password protected sharing", tic "deactivate password protected sharing".

That was step one, now:
any folder you want to share you right click the folder.
hover the mouse over share with... and click on choose persons.
There you have to click on the white space and then click "everyone" and then add.
"everyone" should be in the larger white box below with everyone else you are sharing your files with.
Click "share".

These steps allowd me to acces my files on AiCloud without a username or login. When AiCloud asks for username and login i just click login, i dont have to type anything in.

The problem with your hardrive could be the usb port not giving your hardrive enough juice. cant think of anything else. try a memory stick and see if that works.

This should solve all of your problems. Open Advanced sharing settings and scrolll down to "password protected sharing". Turn it off and you will no longer be prompted for your password and you do not need a password on your user account.

if you are using your email to login in Windows 8, it won't work, instead user the name of the account on your PC
go to your User Profiles and see how it is spelled (ex. MyPC\Name) you need to use Name and your windows password login.

I have the same issue as Pontus161107.

Can't connect to Mac through Aicloud. It asks for login/password, and doesn't accept them, there are no errors just asks for credentials one more time. I use my Mac user credentials for that. Also under Mac I didn't find an option to remove password protection, but anyway it is bad idea.

Did anyone successfully connected to Mac OS files through AiCloud?

Someone else discovered that MAC implementation of SMB was not up to snuff and they found a solution. Works perfectly

ASUSAICLOUD MAC access issues

Hey guys,

So I may have found something regarding AiCloud and Macs. I have been having the same problem (yes, a year and a half later and ASUS still doesn't recognize their problem). I am running Mavericks and keep getting the Username/Password prompt when using AiCloud via any platform/OS/Device.

I am fortunate enough to still have a Snow Leopard boot on my device. Upon booting up snow leopard (and enabling SMB/file sharing services and permissions) I logged back into AiCloud. Click to connect to my Mac Pro and...

drum roll, Rusty........

I FINALLY GOT IN!!!

It still seems hit or miss (sometimes it will ask for my credentials a second time as I go back and forth through folders). It's usually working for me, though. Every once in a while I have to try three or four times before it truly accepts the credentials. But once it does I am off to the races (minus the occasional glitch where it asks for permission when I navigate).

Now, obviously this isn't really a logical solution. I doubt any of you want to downgrade your system back to snow leopard (I'd love to try Lion/Mountain Lion for testing) or even could if you DID want to.

But this does point to an error between AiCloud 2.0 and more recent builds of OSX shaking hands. This is furthermore proven because if I type in a slash '/' before my username (and then type in password as normal) I can get to what looks like a network devices page. But upon clicking any of those devices I am prompted again for credentials that never work.

So this isn't a fix, unfortunately, as much as it is an update for those experiencing this same issue. I spent over 2.5 hours on the phone with ASUS support today going over this issue (Cesar was awesome today). To further help, if you're reading this and have the same issues (or success) please reply here and put in your OS version. This might just prove to ASUS why their stuff isn't working.

BTW, I'm using the ASUS AC-3100 with the most updated firmware (as of the time of this post) which is 3.0.0.4.380_3941. I have attempted to access files on my mac via AiCloud both via browser AND stand alone app. I have tried from iPhnoe 6s, Mac Pro (on both Mavericks and Snow Leopard) and a Windows 10 PC.

Hope this eventually helps out the Mac community!

EDIT!!!!

I have found a solution for accessing files on your Mac via AiCloud 2.0. I've been working on this for over double-digit hours now and finally got a working solution (but I can't take all credit, frankly).

First off, the initial problem is actually from Apple, NOT ASUS like I expected. Apple has done some pretty crappy things with SMB and, basically, broke it. Freaking broke it. New versions and security blah blah blah. You get the point.

I found a way to override Apple's version of SMB and install traditional SMB services. This solution worked IMMEDIATELY. No reboot or anything.

You'll need to download this free application called SMBUp located here: http://eduo.info/apps/smbup

You'll then want to follow the steps listed here: http://www.tweaking4all.com/os-tips-and-tricks/macosx-tips-and-tricks/smbup-mac-os-x-smb-fix/

Then, really, that's it. Sounds too good to be true. I know. But after 6 calls with ASUS "support" and double digit hours trying my own fixes (included command line coding and single-user mode) this literally fixed the issue in 5 minutes.

Hope this works for you like it did me!
