How big of a sd card do i need for 3ds?

Solution

Since you're not getting anything from the e-shop (you're sure of this), a 1gb card is way more than enough. In 2006 I bought a 1 gig memory stick pro when the ps3 first came out and a 1 gig sd card as a back up in case i filled up the memory stick pro. I sold the ps3 to game stop in late 2013 and still had about 600 megs left on the memory stick from all those years worth of game saves and the sd card had never been saved to.

The 8-16 gb for game saves is just nonsense. You might need 2gb is you plan to save every game in the history of the 3ds but other than that 1gb for JUST game saves should be fine.
