I am trying to install an MX100 SSD via ultrabay for the Lenovo Y510p. It shows up under device manager disk drives but not under My Computer (Win 8.1). Do I need to do something in BIOS to get it recognized so I can start using it?

Have You assigned it a drive letter?

No, where do I do that? Will the SSD run faster if I install it internally where the current C: hdd is?

You assign a drive letter under "Administrative Tools" -> "Computer Management" -> "Storage" -> "Disk Management"

This may be where You checked that it was installed.
