network adapter hardware issue

We had our cable modem go bad. There were bad storms in the area and we lost our phone modem and cable modem. When we replaced the cable modem, our hardwire connection no longer worked. The computer does not find our network adapter hardware. I tried to download the drivers but it would not work because it indicated there was no network adapter found.

How do I troubleshoot to determine if the network adapter is good and able to be recognized by the system?

Just fit a new network card, they don't cost enough to spend time being positive about it. It's one of those items where swapping out with a new one is the best way to confirm it's failure.

In any case, your post suggests to me that there's no doubt about it. It happened to me a while back, exact same scenario. I always keep a spare network card or two in my IT emergency cupboard for just such events, spare router/modem too.

I have to say I've never had storm damage to any PC component since I started plugging everything in to a surge-protector 12 years ago. You might want to do the same.
